Managing Human Resources

This module explores the strategic relevance of employee resourcing and employee development to organisations. It will critically assess the importance of labour markets, the concept of employment flexibility, the need for disciplinary measures and workforce reductions, employee involvement, the role of business ethics in employee resourcing, performance appraisals and training models and the increasing relevance of technology for the HR profession. 

The case discussions will give the opportunity to students critically evaluate the topics covered in the lectures. These include analysis of forms of recruitment and selection ; the link between HR strategies and the relevant characteristics of the surrounding labour market ; the importance of training for organisations, but also the impact on career models and the use of technology in the HR, especially at international level. The session on technology is usually delivered by an HR manager.
